I am overwhelmed — all because I try to be the best version of myself
Ever feel like you’re drowning in a sea of to-dos, all because you try to be the best version of yourself? Blame it on those productivity gurus and mindfulness experts pushing a million ways to be successful and mindful. Morning pages, crafting the perfect morning routine, scheduling fun and relaxation time, journaling, meditating, exercising, eating healthy, batch cooking, drinking enough water, tracking sleep, stress, HRV, steps while you try to focus on work, family and friends — the list is endless. Just writing this makes my anxiety spike.
I’ve tried to keep up. Really, I have. But I miss the days when I did these things for my own peace of mind, not just to establish another habit on my quest for self-improvement. My to-do list has grown so long that the things I used to enjoy now feel like chores.
All these productivity hacks were supposed to save time but ended up overwhelming me. Instead of saving time, I’ve been spending it on things that don’t even matter to me, just because I read they would maximize my day. Sure, these tips work for some people, but not everyone. I’m not a morning person, and frankly, I don’t want to be. I admire those who thrive in the early hours, but I’ve always been a night owl, and I enjoy it.
